For any Motorcycle Enthusiast, the DINOSAUR TRAIL is a MUST-DO RIDE, for so many reasons & not just the obvious (IE To see the Dinosaurs). As a rider, I personally enjoy the off-the-beaten path route. Here’s 2 ways I’d suggest; #1. Thru Acme then looping back thru Hussar, or, #2. Thru Chestermere then Wayne (Look over your map before you head out). Marion or Bill at Eaglerider Calgary can set you up with a bike with a GPS system...very helpful. You should know that these side-routes take a bit more time but, then again, you’d miss out on Trucks Suspended in thin-air! On this trip I routed thru Acme.
What can be said about your destination: Drumheller? Look no further than the current Mayor of Drumheller, Alberta, Heather Colberg and you’ll soon realize that the Dinosaur attitude of this City is extinct. Replaced by a vibrant, forward-thinking and aggressive effort to stimulate this fossil bones epicentre. Here are three reasons why I say that the Drumheller Dinosaurs are ALIVE!!!
#1. The People:
Since becoming a Railway station in 1912, this area prides itself on its history. Look no further than the people...
Meet Larry: operator of the Bleriot Ferry, born and raised in these parts who graciously bends your ear with stories of his youth and his miss-adventures along the Red Deer River.
Meet Paula: business owner of the Last Chance Saloon who’s efforts have helped to revitalize the 11 Bridges area after a devastating flood and has attracted the Motorcycle Community as a must-see destination.
Meet Mayor Colberg: The first female Mayor of Drumheller, winning in 2017, a Drumhellerite thru and thru. With my interview with her she said, “We have so much to offer. When you drive down this hill & it’s breathtaking...and please call me Heather”
#2. The Sites:
Where do you begin? Even the ride to Drumheller is stunning! Stops along the way will give you the charm of the area…
Last Chance Saloon
Star Mine Suspension Bridge
Top Rocker Motorcycle Gear
Little White Church
Royal Tyrrell Museum
Tourist Centre (Walk inside the Dinosaur & out its mouth...seriously!)
#3. The Surprises:
How more surprised can one get when talking about Dinosaurs? There are plenty...here’s just a few to experience on your journey thru the Badlands...
Saddles & Bridges (Community of Wayne)
Walking paths with Dinosaur Tracks
A tradition of locks adorned along Star Mine Suspension bridge
Friendly & Inviting Dinosaurs along every street corner
Incredible isn’t it? This one area of Alberta has so much to offer & you’ll have memories to share for a lifetime! Your eyes will dart in all directions as you witness the Badlands for the first time; Immersed in a canyon of discovery. Look left and you’ll see the Hoodoos. Look right and you’ll see a water-park of Dinosaurs playing. There isn’t enough time in a day to uncover all the mysteries of this magnificent area...but it’s sure worth a shot! Enjoy the ride.
