Finding work that you love is one thing but finding work, period, can also be trying these days. These is a secret way forward, you know. Maybe it's time for another approach: Volunteering.
Communities in our City are always on the lookout for volunteers: young, young-at-heart, experienced or rookies. Come-one-come-all, everyone is welcome! But what does this have to do with finding work? Great question! First, change your attitude. Think more of others than yourself and you'll see clearer. Someone who gives unselfishly will see rewards: helping others in need, fostering relationships, going beyond your personal bubble. Taking this chance will help to bring perspective to who you are and the world around you. Being involved in a community will open your world up to conversations, perspective and possible leads.
As a volunteer for Dreams Take Flight and The Calgary Stampede - Rope Square, to name a few, I can't imagine not being involved with these groups. Surrounded by like-minded individuals with backgrounds from CEO's to house-wives is exhilarating. All coming together for one common purpose. Isn't this what community is?
