From the North Entrance of the Calgary Stampede Grounds you will come across this sign. You might be saying, “I’ve walked by there thousands of times and never noticed it” …this is Stampede.
While you’re at it, take a glance at the Big 4 building. Placed high above the entrance you’ll see 4 symbols, or brands, proudly displayed in honor of the 4 originators of the Stampede, hence the name, “Big 4 Building”.
Wait, here’s another one. The original sign of the Stampede Corral is still standing. Smudged between the BMO centre entrance and the Corral Exit you’ll see the sign.
What’s my point?
So often we rush thru places without giving notice to something right in front of our eyes. The 100+ year history of the Calgary Stampede is rich in stories and monuments honoring the early years. So this year I challenge you to slow your pace, and go off the beaten track of the ‘Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth’ and maybe you’ll have a new appreciation of this Calgary landmark event. Bet you didn’t see that comin’ :)
